About Prof. Mohamed Rela
Professor Mohamed Rela is one of the world's foremost liver transplant surgeons and the founder of Rela Hospital, Chennai. He is Chairman of the Institute of Liver Disease and Transplantation and holds the record for the highest number of paediatric liver transplants performed by a single surgeon globally — over 4,500 paediatric and adult liver transplants across a distinguished career of nearly four decades. Prof. Rela trained at King's College Hospital, London, and served as Professor of Hepatobiliary Surgery at King's College London before returning to India to establish his flagship institution. He pioneered the reduced-size liver transplant and the auxillary liver transplant technique, innovations that have saved thousands of children worldwide. Rela Hospital Chennai is now one of the world's busiest liver transplant centres.
