Dr. K. R. Balakrishnan is a pioneer of heart transplantation in India and serves as the Director of Heart Failure and Transplantation at Fortis Malar Hospital, Chennai. He performed India's first combined heart-lung transplant and has led some of the country's most complex cardiac surgery programmes. With over 32 years of cardiothoracic surgical experience, Dr. Balakrishnan is an internationally recognised authority on mechanical circulatory support devices (LVAD), heart failure management, and cardiac transplantation. He trained at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals.
